Floriography!

Floriography.  First time you’ve heard that word? You have actually (unknowingly) used this for years.

Floriography is the language of flowers, to express and convey your feelings to others. Before facebook and Hallmark cards, and quite the rage in the Victorian era, there were dictionaries published to help people know how to speak to one another through flowers. Red roses = true love (you knew that one already).

Most flowers have more than one meaning thanks to the globalization of cultures, languages and customs.  Yet what a wonderful feeling to know that a unique creation of fragrance and beauty can be meaningful as well.

How about this lovely vased arrangement?

  • Iris (Iris) represent –a Message
  • Lily (Lilum) ————Majesty
  • Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus) —– Presumption
  • Stock (Malcolmia maritime) —– You will always be beautiful to me

Appreciating the beauty of flowers does not require a dictionary, but if you want to have some fun and research some common meanings, these definitions came from: http://www.randomhouse.com
